When Universal Percussion introduced Cannon Toms to the percussion market in 1977, they were the first-ever “tubular” melodic toms designed to be add-on complements to traditional drumkits. They were also the first Cannon brand product, and they helped launch what has since become one of the world’s most successful lines of innovative and affordable percussion instruments.

But Cannon Toms did more than that. They also launched a bevy of imitators. Following the introduction of Cannon Toms three decades ago, add-on tubular drums made of fiberglass, acrylic, and even aluminum came on the scene. But while those drums claimed to offer the sort of punch and melodic attack that the Cannon Toms pioneered, none of them could approach the deep, throaty, and natural sound produced by the Cannon Toms’ 8-ply all-maple Keller shells.

Universal is pleased to announce that Cannon Toms are available once more, ready to add their unique sonic contributions to drumkits and percussion setups everywhere. And they’re offered in three distinct series in order to suit any drummer’s budget and musical requirements.

In addition to their outstanding construction quality and rich musicality, Cannon Toms offer drummers an important advantage when it comes to playability. Virtually all other tubular toms are 6'' in diameter. Cannon Toms are 8'' in diameter, making them easier to strike accurately. This larger size also gives them greater tonal depth and a fuller sound than that produced by any other tubular toms.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Cannon Toms have been widely imitated. But their unique combination of genuine woody drum sound and penetrating melodic
attack has never been equaled. Today, with drummers seeking new and exciting sounds to add to their sonic palettes, the reintroduction of Cannon Toms couldn’t have come at a better time!
